Shark
I have a particular affection for this one because it was my first winner in the Caligari monthly image competition. You never forget your first time. A magazine tutorial provided the inspiration, although that was based around nurbs, and I did this using point editing in tS4, which doesn't have nurbs in the strict sense. The backdrop was rendered separately and then used as a background image, allowing me to change the lighting to get the shark looking how I wanted it. The effect I was going for was of a retouched photo in a glossy nature magazine. The grey/white texture is a hand-painted map. My biggest mistake was the teeth where I massively overdid the polygon count, slowing the render down quite a lot.
