Seven Special Effects Plug-ins and
Programs
|
| |
Mountain View, CA - December 12, 2001 - Caligari Corporation (www.caligari.com), a pioneer provider of 3D multimedia authoring technologies, today announced the availability of fxPak, a collection of seven powerful third-party special effects plug-ins and programs for Caligari trueSpace5. With fxPak, trueSpace users can create smoke, fire, water, haze, particle effects, complex shader effects, and other advanced special effects.
"fxPak offers a tremendous value with a wide range of professional effects for stills or animations," said Jeff Parish, Caligari's director of product management. "fxPak raises trueSpace users to a new level of possibility, and it's the perfect companion for the recently released aniPak.
fxPak includes the following plug-ins:
· PyroCluster - PyroCluster is a real volume tracer plug-in for creating photo-realistic smoke, fire, haze, cloud effects, and incredible fly-through animations. Users can create highly detailed volumetric renderings and animations based on true 3D VoXel technology.
Any trueSpace compatible particle system or PyroCluster's advanced particle system can control these effects, so users can enjoy a nearly endless number of outcome options.
· ShaderMagic - Provides a visual interface to the trueSpace shader API, and requires no coding or scripting. Users simply select the components, connect outputs, and assign system variables to the trueSpace properties they want to connect to ShaderMagic properties. Shaders can be adjusted easily, and users receive instant feedback via ShaderMagic's internal editor preview and the trueSpace5 material preview.
· PrimalParticlesFX - A very fast advanced post-processing tool for constructing, animating, and rendering 3D particle systems, PPFX renders particles directly into trueSpace images and AVIs while taking into account the 3D objects in the scene. A huge range of visual effects is supported. Since no trueSpace geometry is created, PPFX can quickly utilize hundreds of particles efficiently - even with particle-interactive objects, such as attractors, deflectors, and fans. Many PPFX functions can be viewed in a real-time wireframe preview mode for intuitive control. PPFX also contains a flexible animation system with dozens of parameters that are key-framed over the life of particles and animations.
· u/v cow - A powerful UV mapping editor for trueSpace, u/v cow is flexible and easy to use. It features modes to work with separate UV coordinates and/or with groups of UV faces. For greater precision the textures can be displayed underneath the edited mesh. u/v cow is tightly integrated into trueSpace and allows users to simultaneously use all the trueSpace built-in mapping functions.
· Shady - A powerful set of 16 custom trueSpace shaders, including vertex and wireframe shaders that follow the real geometry of painted objects. Perlin and cellular functions offer multiple tweaking options for a wide range of results. Visually manipulated color gradients can contain up to 10 different colors, and shaders can change color based on various angle and distance criteria. Displacement shaders help users create wrappable sine waves, layered looks, and smoothness variations. Shady also supports loopable animations and different mapping spaces.
· trueParticles - This geometry-based particle system brings advanced particle special effects to trueSpace5. Users can create dynamic, animated special effects, such as flowing water or dancing flames, exploding objects, dust, fog, rain, snow, smoke, laser beams, force fields, and countless other special effects. trueParticles provides multiple emitter modes, particle emission from any object, many particle types including metaparticles, any instanced object, and even lights. Controls include rate and orientation of particle spin, lateral "bubble" motion, Wind and Gravity Helpers, Blast and Path Follow, and Bounce Helper. Preset layouts help users get started, and they can save their own custom settings. trueParticles is also compatible with Cebas
PyroCluster.
· Ripple Rain 2.5 - While most rain generators require a particle system that needs to be recalculated with each use, Ripple Rain renders only once. Version 2.5 has speed improvements, support for "splatters" and other new effects. Ripple Rain also exports native ready-to-render trueSpace objects that are fully textured with animated rainfall precisely aligned to water ripple emissions. Users simply load an object to add rain to animation. Ripple Rain 2.5 can be used for weapons FX, energy shields and shockwaves as well.

Caligari Announces
jewelSpace- 3D Modeling Software for Jewelry Designers
|
| |
New software makes jewelry design easy, fast, and cost effective
|
| |
Mountain View, CA - (July 20, 2001) - Caligari Corporation (www.caligari.com), a pioneer provider of 3D design tools, today announced jewelSpace™1, a new version of its award-winning trueSpace 3D modeling and animation program, customized for the jewelry design market. The software provides an easy-to-use, flexible 3D interface that lets jewelry designers work in a natural way, directly manipulating their designs in real-time. Finished designs can be output in a wide variety of formats for delivery to customers, rapid prototyping and milling machines, and for display on the web. The output is photorealistic, to exact scale and specifications, and viewable from all angles, allowing for unmatched communication with goldsmiths, model makers, and customers.
"We're bringing 15 years of 3D experience to the jewelry design market," said Roman Ormandy, Caligari president. "jewelSpace's unique interface allows designers to directly manipulate 3D objects, ensuring that a designer's creativity isn't limited by the tools. You can literally 'reach into' your design workspace to build models and make changes, almost as if you were sculpting by hand. These designs can be easily shared with customers, even over the Web, then be approved, sent directly to a 3D printer, and within hours you have a wax prototype, ready for casting!"
Intended for all stages of the creative process, from conceptual design to output of physical prototype files, the software delivers advanced features including a full complement of NURBS-based modeling tools, physically realistic rendering, advanced surfacing features, and libraries of jewelry design elements that can be incorporated into designs. Support for industry standard IGES, SAT, and STL formats streamlines jewelSpace compatibility with traditional CAD/CAM applications, and with rapid prototyping machines, such as the SolidScape ModelMaster II.
Unique User Interface Fosters Creativity, Flexibility
The jewelSpace user interface is uncluttered and fully customizable. It allows for real-time direct manipulation in a full-screen workspace where designers can see a realistic image of the piece they're designing, and see their changes in real time. This approach allows far more creative freedom than other design tools which require jewelers to use numerical entries, cumbersome tool bars, and offer only mechanical wireframe modeling views.
Wide Variety of Output Options
Detailed 3D jewelSpace designs can be saved in a variety of file formats and be easily transmitted and reviewed by people in the jewelry making process, or by customers anywhere in the world. Designs can be shared as printed images, sent by email, or incorporated into animated video sales presentations. Also, for jewelers marketing their designs on the Internet, jewelSpace1 models can be easily output to the web in the popular Viewpoint and Macromedia Shockwave3D formats, and presented with added backgrounds and props. Web site visitors can then rotate, scale, and view photorealistic, detailed design concepts from every angle.
Rapid Prototyping Export Capability
jewelSpace can export all major file formats used by CNC mills and rapid prototyping tools, to streamline the creation of physical models. jewelSpace support for STL format allows designers to send detailed computer models directly to 3D printers (stereolithographs) or service bureaus to create a perfectly proportioned and accurately scaled wax in a matter of hours.
Unparalleled Realism
The program's advanced 3D rendering and physically accurate lighting techniques provide highly realistic, accurately scaled models, with proper reflective and refractive properties. All jewelSpace measurements are precise and in jewelers' terms.
jewelSpace Smart Library
jewelSpace ships with an extensive collection of ready-to-use stones, settings, shanks, findings, and ornamental detail models, which can be easily dragged-and-dropped into the design workspace then combined, altered, scaled, and assembled into a finished piece. These elements are stored as thumbnails in integrated visual libraries, where jewelers can easily add their new designs for later use.
jewelSpace proTeam provides additional content and support services
To help designers quickly become productive with the software, jewelSpace includes Caligari's "proTeam" package of additional services and content. Renewable on an annual basis, proTeam subscriptions include access to:

NURBS based Modeling
trueSpace5 expands the already formidable modeling toolset with a
full implementation of NURBS-based modeling tools including all
Sweeps, Rails, Lofts, Skinning, and Cross-sections. NURBS can be
combined with stitching, blending, filleting and cut with trimming
curves - all in real-time, full 3D perspective. NURBS Geometry Paint
provides users with a paint brush to modify NURBS surface geometry in
real time.
Other new modeling features include:
- Real-time subdivision surfaces for easier texturing and
animation
- traditional CAD-like layers, improved dimensioning, and advanced
2D drawing tools
- fully-parameterized 2D and 3D primitives with Magic Ring visual
control
- enhanced snapping tools
- MetaMuscles
Advanced Surfacing
A completely redesigned Materials Editor and new IIR (incremental
image rendering) technology allow designers to move the resizable
material editor windows over any scene object and edit surface
materials directly with near real-time feedback.
3D paint tools can now paint on textured surfaces with real-time
feedback using arbitrary bitmap as a brush. With real-time UV mapping
in trueSpace5, users can precisely position and apply any texture
projection, using a 3D widget, and get immediate feedback in solid
textured mode.
Physically Accurate
Rendering
New physically accurate lights and image-based rendering technology
allow for an unparalleled level of realism. trueSpace5 offers faster
rendering with better image quality and lower memory use, and new
non-linear tone mapping capabilities to generate even more realistic
images. Ten new advanced shaders include mapped reflectance, shadow
catchers, new fog, wood, leather, and curvature visualization shaders.
More Precise Animation
Controls
For detailed character animation, NURBS and subdivision surfaces
can now be animated at the control vertex level, and trueSpace5
continues to offers linear key-framed animation, and non-linear
physics-based animation with properties such as wind, gravity, and
collision detection. Now, with DX7 hardware geometry acceleration,
trueSpace5 lets users compute the radiosity solution interactively,
while navigating in real-time through a scene.
System Requirements
trueSpace5 requires a Pentium II CPU (Pentium III recommended),
Windows 95/98/2000/NT, 64MB RAM, and 50MB of free hard disk space. For
optimum performance, 128MB RAM and a 3D accelerator are recommended.

Stunning
3D graphics and animation, special $99 introductory price, make iSpace
an indispensable tool for Web developers
June 26, 2000 - Mountain View, CA - Caligari Corporation
(www.caligari.com), a pioneer provider of 3D authoring technologies,
today announced availability of iSpace, a complete 3D Web graphics
and animation authoring package that enables web developers to easily
create stunning 3D Web pages using an elegantly simple drag-and-drop
interface. Used alone, or in concert with traditional HTML editors,
iSpace automatically assembles complete, photorealistic HTML pages
without requiring any HTML programming. Now web designers- even those
without extensive HTML or 3D expertise- can differentiate their sites
using the full range of advanced 3D graphics capabilities.
iSpace complements leading HTML editors such as Macromedia DreamWeaver,
Adobe GoLive, MS FrontPage and Net Objects Fusion, or can be used
alone to create and assemble complete HTML pages. All iSpace functionality
is integrated into one real-time 3D environment where objects can
be manipulated directly and edited in full 3D perspective, or in a
2D window if desired. Web designers can create pages in iSpace from
scratch, or import their existing 2D HTML pages into iSpace and enhance
their layout with included libraries of 3D page style templates and
graphical elements such as buttons, animations, lights, and 3D text.
"iSpace represents a major advance in the evolution of Web graphics,"
said Roman Ormandy, President and CEO of Caligari Corporation. "iSpace
makes today's most sophisticated 3D graphics technologies accessible
to both first-time and seasoned web designers, through a straightforward
interface."
iSpace
Features
Stunning 3D Graphics,
Special Effects, and Animation
iSpace gives Web designers the same broadcast-quality output that
has become the standard in professional video production by using
advanced 3D rendering techniques and ray-tracing to achieve photorealistic
results. These include occlusion, transparency, shadows, reflections,
textures, true lighting, and high-quality anti-aliasing. iSpace also
offers 3D animation capabilities such as rotating buttons, animated
banners, and allows for both procedural and key-framed animation.
Multiple effects can be combined by simply dragging and dropping them
onto an object. For example, both "bounce" and "spin"
procedural animation effects can be dragged onto one object.
Automatic Assembly
of 3D Web Pages requires no HTML programming
Unlike existing programs which only allow for the placement of isolated
3D images on HTML pages, iSpace provides for both the creation and
assembly of entire 3D HTML pages, without any HTML programming. Once
a 3D page is designed, a single command renders each 3D object individually
and automatically assembles all elements, even animated ones, into
a seamless HTML page with highly-compressed GIF animations and JPEGs.
Designers can also import existing 2D HTML documents into iSpace for
a fast "3D makeover".
True 3D User Interface
provides direct manipulation, real-time feedback, flexibility
iSpace integrates all its functionality into one real-time, completely
3D workspace where the table, cells, backgrounds, borders, text and
objects are all 3D objects. Rather than using 2D controls to manipulate
objects, iSpace provides control objects (called "widgets")
which let the user manipulate and scale 3D objects and backgrounds
directly within the interface, and instantly see the changes, making
the creation process easy and natural. The iSpace 3D Table Editor
lets users drag cell borders, set cell size, and even create new cells,
while the rest of the 3D page automatically adjusts in real time.
iSpace maintains a full 3D scene database for every HTML document,
so Web designers can quickly move back and forth between 2D and 3D
representations of their page, if desired. Support for Intel's PIII
SSE instruction set, AMD's K7 CPU and 3DNow technology, and for most
popular 3D accelerator cards, allows the designer to get real-time
feedback as he works.
Included Templates
and Object Libraries speed the design process
iSpace provides a broad array of elegant style templates for creating
the most popular types of Web sites, such as e-commerce, infoPages,
Home Pages, and many others.
Once loaded, iSpace style templates can be customized by changing
cells, colors, textures and lighting, adding logos and text, or replacing
and adding 3D elements. iSpace also includes an integrated library
panel with a wide variety of rich 3D objects such as buttons, borders,
backgrounds, 3D text, lights, materials, objects, and animations,
which can be dragged-and-dropped into the page.
Compatibility allows
for integration with other applications
Compatibility allows for integration with other applications, reuse
of existing assets
Web designers can easily import and edit existing 3D objects from
their favorite 3D modeling programs, including Caligari trueSpace,
NewTek LightWave, Discreet 3D Studio MAX, and Metacreations RayDream
Studio, as well as 2D graphics from popular imaging applications.
iSpace pages are output as HTML code with highly-compressed GIF animations
and JPEGs, which can be easily imported and edited within any HTML
editor that reads HTML tables. No viewer is required to see iSpace
pages on the web.
System Requirements
iSpace requires Windows 95/98/2000/NT, a Pentium CPU, 64MB RAM, and
30MB of disk space. For optimum performance, 96MB RAM and a 3D accelerator
are recommended.
Pricing and Availability
iSpace is available now for a special introductory price of $99,
and can be downloaded directly from Caligari's web site, at www.caligari.com.
In the future Caligari will make additional libraries available on
its website.
