As easy as A B C!

Every month we host a gallery competition, but while this is open to newcomers, many may feel daunted at the idea of going up against people who have been using trueSpace for years. That is why we hosted the Absolute Beginners Contest!

The Contest

We provided a collection of five objects, and entrants had to make a scene that used them all. They could add more objects if they wanted, or modify the ones we provided in any way, just so long as all five were used. People were very creative!

We were surprised (in a good way!) at the range, diversity and quality of the images entered. If this is what people have been producing after owning trueSpace for less than 6 months, there are many out there destined for great things!

WINNER
Michael Weiss

Comments:  I tried to create a scene that asked more questions than it answered. This was my first real attempt at modelling. TrueSpace 6.6 made it very enjoyable!

Prize: $500 credit on Caligari products!

Second Place
Christiane Eisenbarth

Prize: $250 credit on Caligari products!

Third Place
Matthew Collins

Prize: $100 credit on Caligari products!

Honorable Mentions

Name: Stephen May

Comments: "Whilst the Space Babies were Absolute Beginners at building virtual realities, there was no stopping them once they figured out how to Copy and Paste."

Name: Kristijan Salak

Comments: You can see that the house is somewhere in the woods through the window. The baby is having fun in the bathtub, it's playing with its submarine toy. You can also see the cool decorative lights in the bathroom. A bathroom must have some plants in it, so I put a bonsai plant in it.

Name: Bert Webster

Comments: Check out the water for tidal pool critters! I have seven different versions of this with alternate lighting and textures that came out interesting. It was a hard decision to choose which one to submit.

Name: Etienne Benson

Comments: I wanted a correlation between 3D modeling and hobby modeling, so I made this work desk, much like the one I have in real life, covered with model kits and toys being modified, painted, put together out of the box or even simply on display on the desk and the nearby shelf. The sci-fi police robot on the shelf is one I designed and modeled myself.

Name: Sam Liapis

Comments: I had to sleep on it for a couple of nights. Sometimes the visual layout is 90% of the work. Once I knew how to credibly get these objects in the same space it was over to trueSpace! I've read great texts, studied hard, even watched others do it but I never get it until I do it myself - thanks for the competition I learned heaps:)

Congratulations to all those mentioned above, and thank you to all the others who entered!
