Welcome to the Texturing University!

Using the right textures can add realism and interest to an image, and can easily make or break the end result.

The Texturing University is a set of three courses which will make sure you get it right by teaching you all about texturing. Each course focuses on a particular area, to delve deeply into one aspect, and together they cover the field of texturing in detail. The Texturing University is your chance to become a texturing expert!

Texturing University: Texture Creation

Texture Creation is the first course in the Texturing University series. In it, trueSpace master Norbert Esser shows you how to make and apply textures, covering everything from taking the photograph with a digital camera, through to preparing the image in Photoshop to extract everything from color information to bump and reflectance maps, to using all that information in trueSpace with Material Editor layers. This comprehensive coverage will help you whether you are a seasoned trueSpace user, or a newcomer to the world of 3D.

Texture Creation is more than just a regular video course though - as well as the quality videos that let you watch Norbert at work in trueSpace and 2D editing software, you also get almost 60Mb of resources that include objects, textures and scenes. These are the same ones you see Norbert using in the course, so you can duplicate precisely what you see, and then go on to explore and experiment!

Remember that Texture Creation is just the beginning! There will be two more courses in the Texturing University series - Lighting for Textures and UV Maps. These will look at different areas of texturing, and will aim to go beyond the regular courses on offer; for example, Lighting for Textures will include the MaMa Streetpack texture collection (usual price of over $130 alone) with the course!

All three parts work together seamlessly, as well as being valuable stand-alone courses for those who want to study just one area - the choice is yours! The courses will also be equally useful whether you use trueSpace6.6, or the next major version of trueSpace, so you can be assured of learning something you can use today, and that will stand you in good stead for tomorrow.

Course Author, Norbert Esser

Norbert Esser is the trueSpace master behind the three courses in the Texturing University series. Norbert is a long time and prominent member of the trueSpace community who has been a Loyal User runner-up, has had several winning gallery entries such as these from November and February, and is the creator of the Master Materials (MaMa for short) complete photorealistic system of maps and textures. Note that MaMa Streetpack will be included with the Lighting for Textures course, a powerful combination of textures and the training to use them well!

In fact, the Texturing University series will teach you many of the skills and tricks that went into making the MaMa textures and maps, so if you purchase them all you will not only have the MaMa Streetpack, a collection of textures and maps that would usually cost you $130 alone, but also the knowledge needed to keep making and adding quality textures to your collection!
