This category was all about the technical quality of the animation, regardless of whether it told a story, set a scene, or not!

 : Spencer Britton
This animation from Spencer Britton reveals the unusual adventures of some very unusual characters.

The native lifeforms on this planet are somewhat peculiar too, so watch out for those!

 : Nathan R. Prestopnik
Animator Nathan Presopnik and Director Rick Crowsey have created an accident recreation with a surprising amount of realism and detail.

Their technical attention to detail pays off, and gets them the Runner Up slot in the Art Form category.

This category put the focus on the story or emotion, regardless of the technical quality of the animation (but that's not to say the technical quality is low by any means!).

: Saul Greenberg
Saul Greenberg is well-known, having won the regular Caligari animation contest in January 2003 and in April 2002. He has a recognisable style all of his own!

Repeated viewings of any of his animations will uncover new details, different interpretations, and new insights, making them always worth a second look.

We'd like to thank our judges, who took time out of their busy schedules to view and rate the entries - it was a difficult decision to chose between all the animations, though viewing them was a pleasure!

Due to changes in the timing of the Big Break judging, and prior commitments from several judges, the judging panel had to be changed. Caligari and the judges did all we could to try and maintain the original panel, but it simply wasn't possible. Below is our final panel of judges  -

Jim Thacker, Editor of 3D World magazine

Oscar Yglesias, VP of Production Services, Viewpoint Corporation

Andrew Britt, Program Director, Digital Visual Media, for the Expression Center for New Media

Roman Ormandy, President and CEO of Caligari and the creator of trueSpace

As well as winning prizes, our Winners will also be featured on the cover disc of 3D World magazine, with a write-up about them in print. Caligari will also be pursuing many avenues to showcase these animations in as many ways and places as we can! We are constantly looking for new channels to show these animations, and get their animators the attention they deserve.

Last, but not least, we'd also like to thank all the entrants for the time, effort and dedication they put in to this contest, which made it a a delight to view all the animations. If you didn't make it onto the Honorable Mentions, please do NOT be disappointed! The standards were high, and we simply couldn't show all the animations, so keep working on your animations, keep promoting them, keep sending them in to our regular monthly gallery - and one day you'll get your Big Break!

It will move you!
